We Will Peace with Israel

The leader of the Palestinian Authority (PA), Mahmoud Abbas, who was visiting Norway, said he remained committed to Middle East peace process and is ready to resume negotiations with Israel.

In a joint statement with Foreign Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Stoere, in Oslo, saying Abbas has been trying to achieve and will continue to reach peace with Israel through negotiations. "We would like to express our readiness to return and resume negotiations with Israel," Abbas said as reported by Xinhua on Monday (18 / 7).

According to Abu Mazen, Abbas' close calls, the decision to seek UN membership for the Palestinian state-which will be established with the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as the capital-has been taken. "Our people are demanding immediate solution to the problems that have undermined us for 60 years. Our people are suffering," he said.

United States so far has not provided an official reaction on the Palestinian effort to become a member of the UN without a negotiated settlement with Israel first. "If we fail in the Security Council (UNSC) United Nations, then we will bring it to the General Assembly (UN)," Abbas said.

Abbas arrived in Oslo on Sunday (17 / 7) nights during a visit to Norway's support for his proposal. He hoped that Norway would recognize a Palestinian state with 1967 borders and continue to provide support for the Palestinians in their efforts to gain independence.

The Palestinian president also took the opportunity to call on all countries that have not recognize a Palestinian state in order to do that and support all efforts for stability, peace and justice in the Middle East region.

Meanwhile, Stoere urged Palestinians and Israelis to resume negotiations.
"Norway is also encouraging the International Quartet provides a framework that can be supported on both sides to return to the negotiating table," said Stoere.
